Sisson, democratic nominee for elector for the state at large, was in town Wednesday. He is just back from the Kansas City convention and reports a glorious time. - C. A. Torbert of Weir, accompanied by Prof. W. A. Lucas of Jefferson College, was in town last Friday, Mr. Torbert being a member of the county executive committee. - President McKinley has brought prosperity, but you go to Cayarre’s store to get your fancy groceries and confectionary at the lowest prices and you will prosper. One door east of the Bank. - J. W. Meece, of Beat One, was a visitor to Ackerman last Saturday, Mr. Meece enumerated a part of his beat this year. Choctaw had a competent set of enumerators this year and none more so than Mr. Meece. - Dr. Alva Snow, after having taken a swing around over the Indian territory and Texas, has returned to Ackerman and has permanently located in our midst for the purpose of practicing his profession. Sheriff W. J. Crow informs us that his mill on Bywy is now ready to grind wheat. All having wheat to grind should proceed to his mill at once and then they will be in condition to laugh easy and grow fat. - J. F. Haynes of Hinze post-office was in town last Friday night and had us enroll his name as a cash in advance subscriber to the RECORD. Mr. Haynes told us he had about as good a cotton crop as usual, but indications pointed to a little shorter corn crop than usual. - J. B. Morgan of the Kerr post-office was a caller Wednesday. We are rejoiced see him looking so well after his severe affliction, which necessitated a surgical operation at Memphis. He and his wife visited the latter’s brother, A. F. Townsend this week. We were pleased to meet in town last Friday Hon. J. T. McCafferty. Mr. McCafferty informed that he would go to Jackson this week to pursue his studies in order to keep up with the classes in Millsaps College, having lost some time while the Legislature was in session. He will graduate next year. - In a note from W. H. Adams, Worshipful Master of Bankston Lodge A. F. & A. M., we are requested to state that the Lodge of Sorrow which was to have been held in memory of the late W. H. Tabor on the 4th Sunday in July has been postponed until another time due notice of which will be given in the RECORD. - Registrar S. B. Dobbs tells us that he registered up to the close of July the 4th, 1466 persons under the new registration. Many years ago when cotton was 15 and 20 cts. per lb. and the people thought times hard and we thought from the racket made at Mass Meeting Choctaw must have a hundred thousand population.
