NEWS FROM LONG AGO
JUNE 1, 1900
FROM THE ACKERMAN RECORD, VOL. 2, NUMBER 11
Mr. H. R. Johnson [brother of James Wesley Johnson and father of John Henry Johnson] was in town Monday circulating among his friends. Mr. Johnson is the competent and accommodating Postmaster of Chester, and while not of the usual faith in politics yet being one of the most highly respected men in our county for his integrity and straightforwardness. By intelligence, industry and attending strictly to his own business he has accumulated a good share of this world’s goods. Mr. Johnson has always been a patron of this journal and as evidence of his appreciation of it he paid cash in advance to have it sent to his relative E. D. Bowie, Enola, Ark.
Dr. E. E. Morgan was in town Monday and paid this office a visit. He has a card in today’s paper to which we call attention. If afflicted with any of the maladies he proposes to try in his card you will do well to call on him and he will treat you right. - We have secured the services of Crayton Seawright of Austin, Texas, as associate editor and being a practical newspaper man and he will strive to his utmost to give the people the best service. He will be responsible for advertising and receipts for subscriptions.
Mr. Allie L. Rowell, wife, and child are spending this week in the country, visiting the families of Mr. Robin Quinn and Hon. L. Robinson. Allie proposed to devote most of the time in bringing the squirrels down from the tall timbers in the swamps of Tilby while from its limpid waters he intended to pull forth the tooth-some bream.
Mr. W. L. Hunt of Oktibbeha county and of the Sturgis Postoffice, was in town last Saturday and now his name is enrolled on our books as a cash in advance subscriber for twelve months. Mr. Hunt is one of Oktibbeha’s most substantial farmers and makes Ackerman his stopping point and is a patron of our school.
