Sales tax revenue numbers that reflect February sales are in from the Mississippi Department of Revenue for local municipalities.
MDR collects 81.5 percent of the 7 percent sales tax from municipalities and distributes the remaining 18.5 percent back to the municipalities over a three-month cycle.
These figures reflect municipal sales taxes collected on February sales with last year’s figures in parentheses, followed by fiscal year-to-date collections (since July 1) and last year’s YTD figures in parentheses:
Eupora: $29,146 ($30,993); $299,755 ($307,537)
Maben: $6,749 ($7,166); $67,015 ($68,370)
Mantee: $2,528 ($1,729); $18,239 ($18,185)
Mathiston: $16,080 ($13,525); $150,050 ($178,322)
Walthall: $0.00 ($2,792); $26,607 ($31,211)
Editor’s Note: Meg Bartlett, associate commissioner of the Mississippi Department of Revenue, said Walthall did not receive a city diversion payment this month because the village had a taxpayer that amended several months of returns, which resulted in the city going into a negative position related to city diversion. Bartlett also said the Sales Tax Bureau is working with the taxpayer to verify the amendments they made to their returns and ensure these adjustments are correct.
