A grand jury will hear evidence against a man facing two felony charges in Webster County.
Michael Wright, 55, had a preliminary hearing April 17 in Webster County Justice Court on charges of felony possession of meth and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Judge Rebecca Ellison found sufficient evidence for him to be bound over to await the action of the grand jury on both charges, according to court officials. He was released from jail April 20 after posting a $10,000 bond.
Wright was arrested after deputies responded to 1761 Lollars Grove Road about 6:30 p.m. April 13 in reference to someone trespassing on their property, according to the Webster County Sheriff’s Department and an affidavit filed against him by Deputy Brandon Chaille.
Deputies arrived on scene to find Wright and his vehicle parked in someone’s driveway. Inside of the vehicle deputies located a felony amount of methamphetamine, accompanied by a firearm, the WCSD stated.
Statutory rape case on hold
No hearing has yet been held in Webster County Justice Court for a former Eupora High School employee charged with statutory rape.
A preliminary hearing for former EHS assistant teacher Kayla Tindall was last continued on March 13. County Prosecutor Henry Ross said then that the hearing was continued because an investigator with the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation was awaiting a report from another agency.
The hearing was tentatively rescheduled for April 24. However, no court session was held that day and court officials said the case was on hold until they hear from MBI.
Tindall is accused of the statutory rape of a 13-year-old boy last fall. Although not confirmed, the case could be presented directly to the grand jury, which is set for recall May 19.
