In their meeting on Monday, June 1, the Choctaw County Board of Supervisors heard from representatives of a company wishing to purchase the Choctaw Regional Medical Center. The company representatives stated that they have purchased a number of other facilities and their aim in Choctaw County would be to increase employment and services. The sale, if allowed to go through, would include the Choctaw Nursing & Rehabilitation Center and associated clinics. The company has not met with members of the CRMC Board of Trustees yet, but it was suggested that they do so. Supervisor Chris McIntire stated that he had seen the ups and downs that had been associated with the hospital in the past, and knew how the County had sacrificed to pay off the hospital several years in advance. In light of this, McIntire stated that he would be very cautious about any sale, and there would need to be a number of addendums to any sale agreement to protect the residents of Choctaw County. In other action, the Board: • Recognized Christopher Anderson as recipient of the Mississippi Association of Supervisors Scholarship. • Voted 5-0 to close out paperwork on the Weir-Stewart Road project. • Voted 5-0 to approve a two year agreement wit I-Drive to backup all county computers. • Voted 5-0 to approve an agreement with GeoComm, in the amount of $10K, which includes setup fee and first year’s maintenance. • Voted 5-0 to approve purchase of four airpacks for Simpson VFD, from Scott Safety, at a cost $28K, which includes a 10 year maintenance agreement. • Signed a letter of engagement with Central Bidding for a reverse auction, for a onetime fee of $50, for one truck for Solid Waste. • Agreed to leave the current State of Emergency in place, as is, until the next Board Meeting. • Voted 5-0 to purchase voting machines for all county precincts at a cost of $39.8K. The next scheduled meeting for the Board of Supervisors is Monday, June 15, at 9 a.m.
