A number of people were enjoying Monday’s nice weather by fishing, boating and swimming at Whites Creek Lake.
Although the lake and park were closed to the public the afternoon of April 3 to comply with the initial statewide shelter-in-place order because of COVID-19, Eupora Police Chief Gregg Hunter said they were reopened April 20. That is when the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks, in response to a new executive order from the governor, reopened state lakes and state park lakes to fishing and boating.
Bank fishing is allowed with social distancing requirements. Hunter said boats must be at half capacity but camping at the RV park is still not allowed.
Under new guidelines that go into effect at 8 a.m. Thursday until the governor’s Safer-at- Home order ends at 8 a.m. Monday, outdoor recreation activities, such as swimming, are allowed within social distancing guidelines.
