On Feb. 8, the GFWC-MFWC Eupora 20th Century Club held its first Charity Ball in Eupora.
The Eupora club hosted the charitable event at the National Guard Armory to raise funds for its community projects. The evening of fun began with an introduction of the community sponsors and wonderful food provided by the club. After dining, the guests participated in a silent auction and dancing with music provided by the Five Aces. The evening was such a wonderful way to raise funds and celebrate the successes of the local club.
Eupora 20th Century Club focuses on many areas in and around Eupora and Webster County. Some of the areas it serves are education, public libraries, child welfare, community beautification, local law enforcement and veteran affairs.
The club sponsors three local scholarships at Eupora High School and one HOBY leadership scholarship. Throughout the year, it supports education and teachers by donating supplies, hosting gratitude luncheons, donating and reading books, sponsoring love bags and a plethora of other educational needs. This year, the club again hosted a Dr. Seuss birthday reading event for the elementary school in March and provided special in-class readers.
This past fall, the club hosted a Fancy Nancy tea party for the Eupora library and continues to support the local library with fundraising ideas and funding.
Being civic minded, the club continues to support and encourage local law enforcement, sheriff’s department, VFW and local veterans. In February, the club sponsored treats for several local entities and sponsored sending Valentines to many of our local veterans.
The two nursing homes are also an interest of the Eupora 20th Century Club, as it donates items for use in their Christmas Country Store, valentines and various other items.
The Eupora 20th Century Club has 50 members and works in many areas throughout the county and community. The first Charity Ball was a success!
According to Charity Ball Coordinator Haley Murphy, “This event exceeded our expectations. We are so thankful that everyone showed up to support our club. My committee and I worked very hard to plan this event and we look forward to next year’s ball.”
