The Town & Country Garden Club meeting was held in the home of Diane Dempsey on March 16, 2021. Marie Shaw served as co-hostess. There were ten members and two guest present.
The meeting was called to order by Diane Dempsey, President. Sandra Culwell brought the inspiration titled, “A Collect Prayer” by Frances Stewart. Elaine Thompson displayed a Hellebores plant for horticulture. The most popular variety being the “Lenten Rose” which comes in different colors, and the “Christmas Rose” which is white. This is a plant that likes shade and multiplies well. It does not transplant well. Diane Dempsey showed a beautiful traditional design of daffodils and camellias placed in a crystal container.
The program was presented by Elaine Thompson and Debbie Moody. A short slide show was given of the state flower show from 2012, in which Town & Country Garden Club and three entries in which all three placed. Elaine and Debbie created six different designs. The members were educated on the use of plant material with various types of containers. Elaine showed how by using different lines in a design one can enhance the interest of the design. She reiterated that designs in a flower show may not always be one that you would use for the home.
After the program the club went into a brief business session. Committees were assigned for the Southern Pines Spring District Workshop to be held at Lake Tiak O’Khata on May 24, 2022. Town & Country will be hosting this meeting. A report was given about the Arbor Day project by Elaine Thompson. A tree was planted at Legion Park in memory of Frances Ball. Diane Luke and Patricia Holton reported on the educational display that was set up at the library. Diane Dempsey reported that members were placing flower arrangements at the library for the month of March.
With no other business the meeting was adjourned. Diane Dempsey announced that the April meeting would be held at the home of Debbie Moody. All members enjoyed refreshments and fellowship after the meeting.
