William Warren Martin, Jr., 93 of Macon, Mississippi passed away in Greenwood, Mississippi on December 10, 2021. A funeral service was held at First United Methodist Church in Macon, Mississippi at 12:00 noon on Tuesday, December 14th. Visitation preceded the funeral beginning at 11:00 a.m. Burial was at Oddfellows Cemetery following the service.
Warren (affectionately called Doc) was born in Macon, MS on April 20, 1928, to Eddie Earl Windham Martin and William Warren Martin, Sr. He graduated from Noxubee Public Schools in 1946 and Mississippi State University in 1950 with an Agricultural Sciences Degree. While at MSU, he served on one of the best Cattle Judging Teams and was involved in several academic and social organizations. Warren served in the U.S. Army from 1950-1952. After his military service in 1952, he returned to Macon and worked in partnership with his uncle, James C. Windham, cattle and crop farming. In 1956, he moved to Fort Smith, AR and was a sales representative with Purina Foods until his return to Macon in 1960 to marry Betty M. Giffin Martin on October 1 and to work as a sales representative for MFC Services until his retirement in 1986. During retirement, he became an avid golfer. He and his wife, Betty, loved to travel and together they covered many states and countries.
Warren was baptized at Elon Baptist Church, where he attended faithfully, until marrying Betty and together they were active members of First United Methodist Church where he served as a Sunday School Teacher. Warren was very strong in his faith, read and studied his bible daily and lived his faith through his daily actions. He will forever be remembered for his love of God and family. He was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather. He had a kind way with people, enjoyed communicating and sharing his wisdom and sense of humor.
Preceding him in death was his wife of nearly 61 years, Betty G. Martin. His parents Eddie Earl and William Warren Martin, Sr. He leaves behind his sons, David Martin (Susan) of Jonesboro, AR, and Russell Martin (Judith) of Greenwood, MS. His Grandsons, Michael Martin of Memphis, TN, and Clayton Martin of Greenwood, MS.
Warren leaves behind devoted friends, Linda Gilkey and Ricky Trimble of Macon, MS, the special staffs of Indywood Glen and Sta-Home Hospice and his loving caregivers: Denise Campbell, Sylvia Cotton, Mary Baker and Angela Streeter
