Senior Chargers Luke Beard, Calvin Roberts, and Quay’Shunn Lane have been named to the 2022 Class 2A All-State Team first and second defense team.
Beard was named to the 2002 2A First defensive team as the long snapper. He ended the 2022-2023 season with nine solo tackles, 26 assists for 35 total tackles, four tackles for loss, and a forced fumble. Roberts and Lane were named to the 2022 2A Second defensive team. Roberts finished the season with 19 solos, 32 assists for 51 tackles total, 19 tackles for loss, five sacks for 30 yards, five forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, and one blocked field goal.
Lane finished his season with 20 solos, 36 assists for 56 tackles total, four tackles for loss, seven pass deflections, five interceptions for 48 yards, and one fumble recovery.
Beard joins AJ Shelton of Eupora, Jake Vick of Nanih Waiya, Dante Kelly of Leflore County, and Montra Sanford and Omar Wilson of Charleston. Roberts and Lane join Keiyhaun Wilks of J.Z. George, Elijah Wofford of Eupora, Al’davion Hoskin of East Webster, Terrance Marco, and Timothy Kirk of Charleston.
Additionally, several Chargers have been named to the Region 2-2A All-District team.
Senior running back Antonio “BB” Kennedy and senior defensive linebacker Keyshawn Scott were named offensive and defensive most valuable players.
This season, Kennedy had 170 carries for 1,360 yards, 15 touchdowns, and received 11 passes for 157 yards. Scott had 24 solo tackles, 67 assisted tackles for 91 tackles total, eight tackles for loss, one sack for three yards loss, and one pass deflection.
Nine Chargers were named to the All-District Super 26 team, which includes offensive linemen Hunter Holland and Mooka Hardin, wide receiver Caleb Cunningham, defensive ends Calvin Roberts and Braden McGee, linebacker Jae’din Thames, defensive back Quay Lane, punter Jackson Hood, and long snapper Luke Beard.
Offensive lineman Eli Fulce, linebacker Wesley Vowell, half back Alex Telano, kick returner Terence McNeal, and quarterback Kenyauta “KJ” Cork made the All-Region team as well.
Chargers Peyton Thomas, Dschiedrich “Dee” Paden, Jalon James, Zabaius Miller, and Jaheim Woodard were all named honorable mentions to the 2-2A Region team.
