At long last, Eupora and first-year head coach Clay Grissom got a chance to get on the field and start the softball season last week.
Last Saturday was the first games of the season after two weeks worth of rain made things difficult to play. The team played French Camp Academy and Ethel to start things off and came away victorious in both ball games.
Against the Lady Panthers of FCA, Eupora jumped out to a 4-0 lead and didn’t look back as the Lady Eagles ran away with a 13-0 win in just five innings. The Lady Eagles out-hit the Lady Panthers 12-2 to take the victory.
After scoring those first four runs in the opening frame, Eupora scored two in the third, had a big five-run inning in the fourth and scored two more in the fifth to get the run-rule. Harper Doggett pitched a strong ball game as the veteran hurler threw all 5.0 innings, gave up just two hits, no runs, walked three batters and struck out three more.
At the plate, Cydney Murphy and Ally Bingham each had three hits in the win and both had doubles. Miesha Pittman had two hits and one of those was a home run blast as she drove in two runs. Madelyn McMullen finished with a game-high three RBI in the game with a hit.
Eupora used another five-run inning in the second game of the day against Ethel to lead the way in what was a four inning ball game that was won 7-4. Ethel had four errors in that ball game.
Murphy finished with two hits and two RBI with a double while also walking once, Mackenzi Reed-Wood had two hits and an RBI and Isabella White had a double in the game also.
After having the first five games postponed, the Lady Eagles will have two more games again this week. Thursday they will travel to Houston to take on the Lady Hilltoppers at 6:30 p.m. They’ll be back in Chickasaw County on Friday to take on Houlka at 5 p.m.
