This past Saturday, the GCS Eagles fell 68-37 to Starkville Academy, who is very strong in MAIS play.
The Eagles trailed 11-3 at the end of the first and could not come back from there. Bonner Brownlee led the Eagles with 19 points against SA, while Asher Hogue added eight points.
“We had one of those games Saturday where everything that could go wrong did, and our 14-game winning streak came to an end, “said Coach Jason Morgan”, Starkville is a good team, and they exposed a number of things we didn't do well. We will get back to work and try to get back on track this week."
Despite the disappointing loss on Saturday, the Eagles did earn two huge wins earlier in the week. On Tuesday, came a 52-16 win over Calhoun Academy. The Eagles led by 20 at the end of the first, only allowing Calhoun to score five.
Brownlee outscored the entire Calhoun team, recorded 25 points himself, while Jacob Phillips scored 15. On Friday, GCS earned another TSCC win, dominating Heritage Christian Academy 67-24, after leading 23-0 after one quarter.
Once again, Brownlee led with 19, with Phillips scoring 12. The Lady Eagles also had a good week, however also dropped a disappointing game to SA.
The Lady Eagles fell to SA 36-23 after a fourth quarter push was not quite enough for the Lady Eagles. Aspen Harris led with eight points against the Lady Volunteers. However the Lady Eagles dominated at Calhoun, taking a 47-23 win. Carley Peterson led with 18, while Harris scored 10. The Eagles will travel to EAGLE Homeschool on Friday and will travel to Amory Christian next Tuesday. The Eagles faced Starkville Christian last night, however results were not in time for printing.
