Trash everywhere
As I left the post office a few weeks ago, a man that had walked out ahead of me was looking at a piece of trash someone had thrown down beside my truck.
We talked for a minute about being extremely concerned about the litter problem in our county and state. People drive through our communities especially in the county throwing out all kinds of trash for someone else to pick up.
Stewardship is a theological belief that humans are responsible for the world and should take care and look after it. When we litter, we are showing disrespect for the beautiful world God has blessed us with.
In Mississippi, it costs $3 million a year to collect litter and debris along the highways. There is a $250 fine for throwing trash on state highways, but that penalty doesn’t seem to deter some people.
Let’s do a better job with this problem. Don’t throw stuff out in our neighborhoods. It is easy to keep your trash in a bag in your vehicle and dispose of it at your house or in a trash can somewhere.
