Webster County’s unemployment rate was unchanged in September, according to preliminary numbers from the Mississippi Department of Employment Security.
The county’s unemployment rate stood at 3.7% during September, the same as in August and down from 4.6% in September 2021. This was the 26th lowest rate in the state.
The estimated number of unemployed Webster Countians in September increased by 10 to an estimated 150. The labor force, which is made up of everyone who has a job or is looking for one, increased by 60 to an estimated 3,960.
MDES statistics from 1990 forward show the county’s highest unemployment rate for September was recorded in 2002 when it reached 15.1%. This September’s rate was the lowest for that period. The 12-month moving average is 3.8%.
September jobless rates in adjoining counties: Calhoun, 4%; Chickasaw, 4.6%; Choctaw, 3.2%; Clay, 4.8%; Grenada, 3.5%; Montgomery, 4.2%; and Oktibbeha, 3.7%.
Mississippi’s unemployment rate for September was 3.7% while the national jobless rate was 3.3%, neither seasonally adjusted.
