WRITEON FOR NOVEMBER 30, 2022
The end of November already and for those who follow seasons, the beginning of Advent this weekend, the awaiting of the Lord as He comes at Christmas. Oh my…One of the highlights for me, however, during this month was the GIRLFRIENDS FAMILY REUNION. (see pic). Family reunions are popular as readers well know and often since they do not take place every year those who come are so happy to see one another, to be with one another, to catch up. Ours was held at COX’S CORNER GROCERY @ THE CROSSROADS in Weir on the way to French Camp. And didn’t we eat! What lovely help we received, Stephanie and Jeff and Gabby…thank y’all so much!
GIRLFRIENDS GO is the revised incarnation of the original, and we welcome any women who might want to join us. We meet MONTHLY (rather than 7 years of weekly, and it will be at a different eating establishment each month on the SECOND FRIDAY @ 1PM. At the Reunion, we looked at various ways GIRLFRIENDS GO might gather, and this was the most popular. That it might evolve into something else as we go…who knows? NEXT MEETING DECEMBER 9. (for info: 285 3122)
When GIRLFRIENDS began in January 2014 at Broken Wings at the request of Kay for a Bible Study, we ventured out into unknown territory. Who would come and what would we do? At that time our goals were simple…all women are invited, we’d do a devotional of some sort, share it around, do some art project (remember the sock monkeys? And our quilt? And the MS map still displayed in the courthouse hallway?) and eventually after a year or two we had our feet. We entered the Christmas Tree contest and began to discover various other art experiences. We did simple art projects to give back…pots for plants and our bench at the nursing home. We explored music and DVDs, books, and shared faith. GIRLFRIENDS gathered for prayer and study (finding Jesus at their root), modeled intergenerational and multi-ethnic friendship…a high bar for what GIRLFRIENDS would come to express as most important: kindness, respect, and hope in diversity, rooted in the message of Jesus. It was a sad moment indeed in December 2020 to have to close the book on our meetings…that wicked covid bug.
We have mourned several girls who have gone on over the years: Charmaine, Ms. E., Lynn, Imogene, Bro. Bill, Leslie, Candace, and Margie. GIRLFRIENDS GO now begins a new chapter, and we’d like you to either COME BACK you old GIRLFRIENDS…or come and join us for the first time.
BLESSINGS
