Friday was a beautiful day at the Maben Public Library. We read "Super Spiders by Jason Blake." This book is full of interesting facts about spiders.
Spiders are arachnids instead of an insect, which most people get them mixed up. They also have eight eyes but cannot see very good. They smell through little holes in their legs because they don't have noses or ears.
There are about 50,000 different kinds of spiders. Some of them are goliath spiders, which are so big they can eat a bird, crab spiders and even jumping spiders.
The ones we have to worry about are the brown recluse and black widow spiders, which are both poisonous. Even if a spider is not poisonous, you don't need to touch them. They make silk used to spin their webs and catch insects to eat.
The children enjoyed making their own spiderwebs with paper plates and yarn. They painted spiderwebs with yarn and white paint, and glued spiders on their picture and even made spiders and webs with Play-Doh with the help of the parents.
Friday we had Tyler Kay Bates, Magnolia, Miller and Maverick Turner.
