Louisville youth and Grace Christian School junior Julius Culwell had the honor last year of being on the 2021 Appaloosa Youth Association (AYA) Board of Directors, and due to his hard work all last year on the board, his peers elected him again to serve on the board for the 2022 show season. AYA members had an opportunity this month to vote to select a total of 10 youth onto the 2022 Board of Directors. Julius was selected by his peers to be one of two youth that will be representing AYA Territory V consisting of Arkansas, Tennessee, Mississippi, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Kentucky, Virginia, West Virginia, Delaware, and Maryland along with the District of Columbia. Julius got involved with AYA through his ownership of his Appaloosa mare named Hollywood NV ME. Julius and his mare compete in the Appaloosa Competitive All-Breed Activities Program (ACAAP). The duo finished the 2021 ACAAP show season winning first in the nation in barrel racing, games, and ranch competition. The duo also placed third in the nation in trail and fifth in the nation in western equitation. In addition to their Top Ten rankings for 2021 in five categories of ACAAP competition, they also received a certificate of achievement in ranch competition and trail and a certificate of superior achievement in barrel racing and games. As they wrap up the end of their 2021 show season, they are looking forward to the start of their ACAAP show season for 2022, which will begin with their first show at the Dixie Nationals Color Bonanza Horse and Mule Show in Jackson, MS starting January 20th through 23rd.
