The 13th annual Scarecrow Trail, sponsored by the Choctaw County Master Gardeners, was held October 17-30. Sixteen scarecrows were entered in the competition this year.
“We appreciate the community support of all individuals, school groups, businesses, and organizations that created and entered a scarecrow this year,” said Darrell Banks, Choctaw County Extension Agent.
The first-place winner was “OZZY” by Ackerman Church of Christ, receiving $50 and a certificate. The monetary award was sponsored by Master Gardeners and the Choctaw County Chamber of Commerce. Additionally, there were two second place winners, "Bea Kind" by Ackerman 20th Century Club and "Toothless" by The Ramblin’ Box. Both received a certificate.
The Choctaw County Master Gardeners is a volunteer program within the Choctaw County Extension Service that sponsors the Scarecrow Trail annually. The scarecrows are displayed around the Bruce Burney Memorial Walking Track in downtown Ackerman. The displays are a featured part of Jack-O’Lantern Jam, an annual October event organized by the Choctaw County Chamber of Commerce.
