When the Louisville Municipal School Board met on Tuesday, July 18, a sense of excitement regarding the upcoming school year was easily observed. One of the items on the agenda had to do with the reinstatement of the LMSD (Teacher) Recruitment and Retention Policy. This policy was adopted by LMSD in the years prior to the pandemic, and it had to be temporarily suspended in the aftermath of COVID. However, the school is reinstating the policy for the 2023-2024 school year, and the administration is excited about its return. The policy will provide a monetary bonus of up to $1,000.00 to new teachers who accept a position to teach in a tested area, such as English/Language Arts or mathematics. The retention portion of the policy provides a bonus of up to $2,000.00 for teachers who meet growth and proficiency criteria as set forth by board policy. With this in mind, the board discussed and approved final changes to the 2023- 2024 faculty and staff roster. This included the approval of a substitute list for multiple positions. LMSD will also utilize door badges for faculty and staff for enhanced safety at all campuses. The school board officers for the 2023 – 2024 year were also named: Ronnie Ware – President Jacqueline Steele – Vice-President Brenda Johnson – Secretary Roger Caperton – Assistant Secretary Robert Jones, Jr. - Member Other business considered and acted upon by board members included: • Approved the minutes from the previous business meeting • Approved consultants for the HERO grant program for the 2023 – 2024 school year • Approved the motion to advertise for educational consultants for the district for 2023 – 2024 (The board also voted to approve for the hiring of said consultants) • Approved a grant to NWHS in the amount of $25,000 in order for the FFA program to participate in the Wild Hog Control Program (Youth Trapping Corps) • Approved the FY24 IDEA budget in the amount of $942,932.00 ($913,245.00 K12 funds; $29,687.00 preschool funds) • Approved the utilization of Compliance Testing Services, LLC for drug testing • Approved the Claims Docket • Approved June 2023 bank balances and financial reports The LMSD board will meet on July 25, 2023 at 8:30 A.M. to discuss the budget for the upcoming school year. The next regularly scheduled board meeting will be held on August 8 at 5:30 P.M.
