There’s always something exciting happening at the Winston County Library. While the library gears up for some upcoming events, some popular activities are ongoing each week in March.
“We are always excited to open our doors to patrons and newcomers, and we believe we truly have something of interest for all ages,” said Beth Edwards, librarian.
Edwards encourages children and students to visit the library during their annual breaks from school. “Children, students, and families with free time are encouraged to spend it with us, and spring break is a great time to enjoy our many activities,” she said.
For the remainder of March, activities will include: Tuesday, March 11, Toddler Tinker Lab at 9:30 a.m.; Wednesday, March 12, Adult Sip & Draw at 10 a.m.; Thursday, March 13, Bingo at 10 a.m. and Chess Club at 3:30 p.m.; Monday, March 17 and Monday, March 31, Art with Mr. Andy at 3:30 p.m.; Tuesday, March 18, Story Time with Mr. Andy at 9:30 a.m. and Creative Kids Club at 3:30 p.m.; Thursday, March 20, Tech Tutors (receive help with your personal electronic devices) from 9-11 a.m. and Library Learners Homeschool Club at 2:30 p.m.; Monday, March 24, Teen Theatre Workshop at 3:30 p.m.; Tuesday, March 25, Play Café at 9:30 a.m.; and Thursday, March 27, Adult Social Hour with a craft at 10 a.m.
This month, the library will host Taneha Eichelberger Scott, author of “Getting Help with Illiteracy,” for discussions at 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Friday, March 21. An elementary school teacher, Scott will share the journey of writing her book and supporting readers in overcoming literacy challenges. The first 12 attendees will receive free brown bag lunches provided by Friends of the Library.
Next month, Edwards reminds patrons of the observance of National Library Week, April 6-12. One date in particular that week, Wednesday, April 9, will feature a 10 a.m. craft time for adults to make door hangers with complimentary materials.
Welcoming spring to the Winston Library will be Felder Rushing, Mississippi’s well-known Master Gardener, who will be featured at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, April 8. He is an author and retired Extension Service urban horticulturist specialist who travels in an old pickup truck filled with a working garden. In conjunction with his visit, the library encourages attendees to bring a plant and participate in a swap.
More authors are slated to discuss new books in April. Steve Robertson of Starkville will visit Thursday, April 10 at 11:30 a.m. to discuss “The Dude: The Life and Times of Dudy Noble.” And Friday, April 11, Scott Hendrix of Louisville will discuss “Justine” at 11:30 a.m. Friends of the Library will provide free brown bag lunches for the first 12 persons at both the Robertson and Hendrix events.
