Wrongful termination
My name is Phyllis C Little-Jenkins I'm 60 years old and I live in Starkville, MS (Blackjack). I moved to MS in 2013 from Detroit, MI to assist in the care of my aging parents. I worked for a Juvenile Corrections Facility for over 14 years and worked for a private facility for over 7 years. My work ethics has never been in question.
I was employed at Winston County County Regional Facility from 2014 to 2019. I was the Supervisor over the County Side of the Facility, I was terminated for asking the nurse to submit a no fish tray for a inmate that stated she was allergic to fish, and also I was accused of giving a statement to APM news on the housing arrangement of Curtis Flowers a high profile case. It was said that I intimidated the nurse and she was afraid that I might retaliate against her. None of this is true. I just wrote a short narrative of what happen. I have documents txt message from that nurse starting that she never said anything like that and I never gave information to any news source.
When someone has been wrongfully terminated how are they supposed to survive. I followed the steps, file for unemployment and because of the way I was terminated I was denied, so I appealed the decision. I had a phone hearing with MDES judge, I'm on the phone representing myself and the employer had their attorney and witness that still work for the facility that was not telling the truth, so the MDES judge sided with the employer. I have now file another appeal with the Circuit Court of Oktibbeha County and now I'm waiting this could be 3 months before I get a answer.
I'm sure I'm not the first person this has happen too and I'm not sure if this is new worthy but being terminated for reasons that was not true and being said that I was intimidating and I was going to retaliate against an employee has not only made me look bad it has placed a black mark on my employment record for future hire.
Thank you,
Phyllis C Little-Jenkins
