A Presidential Platform
By Cheryl W. Glenn
I’ve never been a political person. Never had an inkling to hold a public office.
But recently, reports of abuse of power and corruption from the White House to Businesses nationwide, have prompted me to come up with a solution to the plight of some problems of the world.
Most would agree that America is in trouble and needs a “booster shot” for moral leadership.
And with that said, I’ve come up with a 5-point plan for Presidency; a pie in the sky idea, but here goes:
If I were to run for President in 2020, here’s what I’d propose:
1. I’d put prayer back in the school system and give atheists the chance to “opt out”. After all, the Founding Fathers were Christians, yet we’ve allowed nonbelievers to control this country.
2. Charity begins at home. I’d request the $5.7 billion (President Trump wanted) to build a border wall, and use it to put a dent in the two-fold problems of homelessness and starvation in America.
3. I’d give Food Stamp recipients a rewards program, encouraging them to eat healthy and, rewarding them with small stipends and prizes for weight loss and proven healthy lifestyle improvements, as they locate jobs which will eventually remove them from the welfare rolls and improve the quality of their lives.
4. I’d remove all taxes on food and medicine, as they are necessities for life, and are already too expensive.
5. And finally, I’d put an end to police brutality, imposing mandatory sentences upon those officers who were sworn to “protect and serve” when they shoot and kill unarmed minorities.
Like I said earlier, I’ve never aspired to run for public office and my plan won’t cure all of the problems, but if I did run, I’d likely get a few votes.
Maybe some of the Presidential Hopefuls in 2020 will use some of these ideas and improve upon them.
They have my permission to do so.

Spending
Dear Editor,
Several years ago, a man much wiser than I, stated that the cost of government was reaching dangerous levels. Also, many years ago, a senator upset with the spending by congress, made the comment to his fellow members, "A million dollars here, a million dollars there; after awhile, we're going to be talking about real money."
The proposed pay raises in this bill are a good example. Pay raises proposed will add an estimated 10 million dollars plus, the first year.
In ten years, this would amount to over $100,000,000.00. That's a lot of zeroes!! Of course, the next item will be a tax increase, with the excuse that the state doesn't have enough money!
I believe Republicans used to refer to Democrats as the "Tax And Spend Party". Sadly for the taxpayers and their bank accounts, the Republicans have joined the Democrats in the legislature, making for One Big Happy Bunch of "Tax And Spend" Lawmakers.
At our legislature in Jackson, Republicans and Democrats can work together, as long as it pertains to spending your tax dollars.
Last but not least, if a bill for pay increases, was for County Road Workers, Firemen, and Deputies, instead of Elected Officials, I would not have written this letter.
