Who says electricity and water don’t mix
By Charles R. (Ron) Bennett
If it relates to 4-County EPA and Simpson Water Association they mix very well.
I am the President of the Simpson Water Association Board. A couple of years ago, we had two well motor failures back to back. We contacted our engineer but also 4-County’s engineer for help. The Four County EPA representatives did some evaluations and monitoring of our wells. They assisted in filing an insurance claim that paid most of the expenses. Everyone we dealt with was very courteous and helpful. We just want to publicly thank 4-County.
The second reason for this is to encourage our local water systems to include their EPA’s when a problem arises. The monitoring they did showed there was no fault from there services. The EPA’s are just like water systems, their service can’t go past the meter. What their monitoring did was evaluate uses, peaks and determine if there were any surges. There was no problem from their side. So how did this help? Anytime you seek the answer to a problem you have to evaluate all possibilities. When you find out what it’s not then it’s easier to figure out what it is.
In rural America and especially for rural Mississippi, we are blessed to have our investor owned electric power associations and rural water associations.
Providing our association members with water is a good thing but it is also a constant challenge. Safe, dependable and affordable water does not happen without a lot of planning and solid decision making. I appreciate all the volunteer time our board and all the local rural water boards donate to our customers who are the owners. Who better to make those decisions than the ones who drink the water we pump and sell, and don’t forget all of them pay a monthly bill just like you.
When you are making those decisions, don’t rule out the willing, wise and able knowledge from your EPA. When we’re not pumping water they aren’t selling electricity so they have a vested interest in our systems and all of them drink water from one of those systems.
Good Luck and Be Safe, Ron
