Referring to the Wednesday, September 4 article in the Winston County Journal , "Door of No Return."
It was an interesting article in parts. The group of descendants of slaves got to return to an area where their forefathers were held in captivity by their own chieftains until Europeans came along and bought them. From there they went through the "Door of No Return," and were shipped to other parts of the world where they continued their lives as slaves.
The group from the Advancement of Colored People saw how the descendants of the people in the small fishing village in Ghana, Africa live; those who never became slaves. I have a close friend who is a pastor in Accra, the capital of Ghana. From what he tells me, almost all of the people in Ghana live in dire poverty and frequent civil disorder. When he comes to America to visit, he is amazed to see how the black people in America are so much better off than those in Ghana.
The group saw how those people live in comparison to how they live in America. What amazed me so much about the article was that the resulting attitude of the group, as portrayed by the article was that Vice President of the Board of Directors of NAACP Karen Boykin-Towns stated, "What a privilege it is to be in this country. As we make this journey, it's important that we take what we learn here, and use it to fuel the fight when we get back to America."
"The fight?" It seems to me they should return to America extremely grateful for how Jesus has brought the descendants of slaves to America out of the hardships of slavery that their forefathers went through, and into a much better situation than they would be in if they were still in Ghana.
The article said that on the other side of the "Door of No Return," the sign said, "Door of Return." If it was so much better there, why didn't the members of the group just return to America to make arrangements to immigrate back to Ghana? We don't need that spirit of fight here in America. We need peace, pulling together, and respect for each other; to build an America that is even greater than it has ever been; for all legal citizens to prosper.
The greatest known tactic of war is to "divide and conquer." Even the Bible says, "A house divided against itself cannot stand." The devil know that. He hates America, and wants desperately to destroy this wonderful country. Why, because together, we stand in the way of satan's world conquest more than any other country in the world. Do you know that we send out more Christian missionaries than any other country in the world?
Let us be careful not to be found on the devil's side to fight among ourselves and end up helping to destroy our beloved nation. Then, no one would be blessed as they are now. We would all be slaves of whomever took us over, to rule us as they so desire.
