Blessings Counted and Noted
This morning, as I listened to the sound of birds singing their wonderfully melodious songs, I could hear God preaching a sermon.
The birds chirped incessantly and it was as if I could hear God’s voice “saying: Listen! Can you hear these birds? If so, then you are blessed.”
Then, as a hummingbird stopped in front of a red canna lily, seeking a sign of nectar, God whispered, “Look, can you see that. It’s one of my creations, the only bird who can hover motionless in midair. If you can see this, then you are blessed.”
As I sat there, drinking my morning cup of java, God said “Enjoy your drink. Do you know how many people would like to have coffee and breakfast every morning? If you have food to eat, then you are indeed blessed.”
As I gazed up into the sky, viewing the clouds which had just brought last night’s rain, God stated “Do you know how many people would love to see this June sky? This is certainly a blessing.”
Finally, as I opened the door, to enter the place of my dwelling, I heard God say, “STOP! And pay attention to your surroundings. Do you know how many homeless people would love to open the door to just one room to call their own? If you can do this, then blessings are with you.”
And so, as I began what started out as an ordinary day, turned out to be a magnificently blessed one, as things I could complain about seemed so insignificant, as I started to count all of the stupendous blessings that I have.
Then a song came to mind by the group Rend Collective. Some of the lyrics state: “I am counting every blessing, counting every blessing/Surely every season/God is good to me!” And He is. Good that is; good to you and me.
And despite whatever issues, problems or concerns we might have. We are tremendously blessed and should, as the song says “Count our every blessing!”
