Former patient praises staff of NMMC-Eupora
Although we have many things to be thankful for every day, this is the season that was set apart years ago for Thanksgiving. This letter is about my thankfulness for the North Mississippi Medical Center in Eupora.
Six months ago in May, I had triple bypass surgery at St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson. After five days, it was determined that I needed to go to a swing bed for a short time. My daughter Elizabeth Orr, a nurse at your hospital, wanted me to come to Eupora. She spoke so highly of the hospital, the staff and Dr. (Charles) Ozborn.
The decision was made by everybody that Eupora was the best place for me and so it was! Being an Ackerman Indian from the 1960s made it awfully hard to come to the town of the Eupora Eagles, not to mention being over a 100 miles from home.
Sometimes people in the small town do not realize the blessing that they have where they are. In the big city you can’t find a doctor that will come to see you by the clock at 5:30 every morning and actually take time to talk to you for more than five minutes.
Dr. Ozborn did that and probably kept me from getting pneumonia by calling for an early test. Everybody from the ladies who cleaned the room, the ladies from the kitchen, and all the people on the nursing staff were topnotch, kind and caring.
The physical therapist, Bill Johnson, knew just how much to push me and yet not push me too hard with his kind encouraging voice. Liz Pittman Byars, the occupational therapist, had so many creative things for me to do to get me ready to go home.
When I went to my surgeon — Dr. Protos of Jackson Heart, whom I highly recommend — I told him what a great place the Eupora swing bed is. To my knowledge there is nothing short term in this area like what you all have. I also highly recommend my cardiologist, Dr. Harkins of Jackson Heart, who wisely listened to my symptoms and called for a heart cath.
