A locked in East Webster Lady Wolverine softball team is on a mission.
EWHS has won eight-straight games while outscoring its opponents 116-12. The latest victims were two Class 2A, Region 4 opponents last week.
It started with a road game at JZ George that was over quite early. The Lady Wolverines scored 17 runs in the first inning and would roll the Lady Jaguars 25-0 in just three frames. 19 hits made for a big offensive day at the plate for the Lady Wolverines as they continued to be one of the more impressive offenses in 2A this season.
Emma Jennings led the way with a 4-for-4 night with two doubles, a triple and three RBI as she finished a home run shy of the cycle. Jasie Rae Flora and Paytan Sanders had three hits each with Flora knocking in a run and having two doubles. Sanders had a huge seven-RBI game with a double and a home run.
Peyton Flora, Abby Williams, Katelee Box and Hallie Beth Reed all had two hits a piece with Flora, Box and Reed having doubles and Williams and Box hit one over the fence. Flora, Williams and Box all had two RBI.
EWHS also threw three pitchers in the game as Peyton Flora threw a perfect inning with three strikeouts. Williams gave up two hits in an inning and struck out two and Sanders allowed just one hit in her inning.
Eupora gave the Lady Wolverines its best game in recent weeks. The rival lost 18-0 to EWHS the last time the two teams met a couple of weeks ago, but the Lady Wolverines were in for a fight in the third inning as Eupora trailed 2-1. EWHS got up 9-1 in the fourth, however and was able to take away the win at 10-4.
It wasn’t the best hitting day of the year for the Lady Wolverines but they also saw Eupora commit eight errors in the game and took advantage of some of those chances. Peyton Flora had two hits while her sister, Jasie Rae, had a double and two RBI. Reed had three RBI on one hit.
Williams started the game and threw 4.0 innings with four hits, one earned runs, no walks and a strikeout. Peyton Flora threw the final 3.0 innings, gave up two hits, one run and two walks.
The Lady Wolverines are now 18-5 and 6-0 in Region 4 play with a chance to clinch the district this week. The team played Ethel on Monday night and were expected to play Calhoun City on Thursday night. A win against Calhoun City firms up a first place finish in district yet again.
