When the playoffs come around, it’s time to be prepared for anything and the Louisville Lady Wildcats saw that last week.
Playing in the third round of the Class 4A playoffs at Mississippi Valley State, LHS and South Pontotoc had a game of stall ball. The Lady Wildcats held South Pontotoc to just two points in the first and third quarters and held on late in a tough one that has LHS surviving and advancing in a 26-25 win.
After jumping out to a 10-2 lead in the opening quarter, the Lady Wildcats were in for a fight. South Pontotoc closed the lead to 14-13 at the break. LHS held South Pontotoc without a point in a stalled out third quarter as the lead stretched to 20-13, but the Lady Cougars made a run late before falling by one point.
Jacilyn Houston led the low-scoring affair with nine points and five rebounds.
The team marches on now to the semifinals of the 4A playoffs and played on Monday at the Big House in Jackson against Raymond in a game that took place after press time. The two teams have won a combined 30-straight games headed into round three.
The Lady Wildcats (28-3) with a win will take on the winner of Pontotoc and Quitman on Thursday.
*The Lady Wildcats defeated the Raymond Lady Rangers. This story was written before the two faced each other Monday night. The Lady Wildcats took on Pontoto Lady Warriors at 5 p.m. on Thursday.
