Louisville’s girls are moving on in the Class 4A state tournament.
The Lady Wildcats weren’t at their best on Monday night hosting New Albany, but a win is a win and that’s what they got in a 41-34 ballgame. Head coach Fred Morris expects more from his team if they plan on moving on beyond round two, however.
“We have to play better otherwise we’ll be going home,” Morris said. “We didn’t execute. We had too many turnovers and too many mental mistakes so we barely squeaked it out. We didn’t give a playoff effort. In the playoffs you have to play with much more attention to detail and effort or you’ll get beat.”
Next up for the Lady Wildcats is another home game on Wednesday. Morris was expecting to see a matchup with Greenwood with a win from his team. Greenwood came into its game with Mooreville at 12-4 while the Troopers were just 5-16. But when the buzzer sounded on Monday, it was the Troopers that pulled out the upset win.
“Looking on paper, I thought Greenwood would win that game. Now I’ve got to go back and watch some Mooreville highlights. Greenwood was playing at home and were 12-4 and Mooreville was 5-16 so I just automatically had Greenwood winning that game.”
Due to Mooreville being the lower seed, the Wildcats will get to host another playoff game Wednesday night at 6 p.m. A win in that game will advance LHS to the third round to take on the winner of Pontotoc and North Pontotoc.
The boys went into Tuesday night’s playoff game at New Albany at 4-11. That game finished after deadline.
