French Camp softball was held hitless, dropping its opening game to Sebastopol 13-0.
It was the team's first action in nearly a year. “You have to get the rust off,” said coach Todd Chesser. “I don't want to make excuses, but having that long layoff and having to get back in the routine, it doesn't help.”
Abby Leathers was pressed into pitching duties and did well, according to Chesser. She allowed five hits and fanned two in five innings, but was victimized by errors behind her.
“For someone who doesn't normally pitch, I consider that pretty good. We just made some mistakes in the field. Unearned runs beat us.”
The Lady Panthers were scheduled to play Vardaman Tuesday and have a home game with J.Z. George Thursday.
