It was a pivotal week for Eupora’s softball playoff hopes but the Lady Eagles came up short in heartbreaking fashion.
Eupora had matchups with Calhoun City and Bruce and lost both games in relatively low-scoring affairs. Against the Lady Wildcats last Tuesday, Eupora couldn’t break through on the offensive end and CCHS made sure that it took advantage scoring four runs on four hits on the way to a 4-1 victory.
It was a disappointing outcome for the Lady Eagles as they out-hit CCHS 6-4. Mackenzi Reed-Wood and Bella White each had two hits with one of those being doubles. White drove in the team’s only RBI of the day.
Harper Doggett started the game and pitched 5.0 innings with four hits, four runs, five walks and two strikeouts. Belle Tedder threw the seventh inning and gave up nothing.
The pill got tougher to swallow on Thursday. After surrendering three runs in the first inning to Bruce, Eupora settled in and had a chance to win the game but came up short in a 4-3 ball game. Four errors doomed the team.
Doggett scattered eight hits in 7.0 innings but three of the four runs she surrendered were unearned. White and Emma Tindal led the team with two hits as White had another RBI double and Tindall drove in a run as well.
The Lady Eagles did get some positive vibes going to finish out the season on Monday. Traveling to West Point to take on the Class 5A Green Wave, Eupora got a lead in the first inning and kept it on the way to a 12-0 final in five innings.
The squad played error free and had eight hits with Mary White leading the way with a 3-for-3 night. She hit a home run and drove in five RBI in the big game at the plate. Reed-Wood was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a double while White had a triple and drove in two runs.
The season ended with the Lady Eagles going 7-16 and 3-4 in Region 4 play.
