Choctaw County softball won three of four Region 4-3A games, with a 16-1 victory over Aberdeen, a 10-3 loss to Houston and a doubleheader sweep of Noxubee County 16-0 and 18-2. All three wins lasted only three innings.
Raquela Graham and Alexis Patterson led the offense against Aberdeen, each with a homer and a single. Graham had three RBIs and scored three runs and Patterson drove in four and scored three times. Akira Taylor pitched hitless ball with four strikeouts.
The Lady Chargers were held to four hits by Houston pitcher Paige Kilgore, including a bases loaded double by Makenzie Sanders in the bottom of the third that scored three runs to cut the deficit to 6-3. But Choctaw County was scoreless the rest of the way.
Taylor had three more hitless innings in the 16-0 Noxubee County game with five strikeouts. Maylee Hollis, Patterson and Salley combined for a two-hitter in the second game. Graham, Julia James, Taylor and Hailey Miller had home runs in the doubleheader.
“This team is full of talent, but sometimes I think they question whether they can win...and they very much can. I will be making sure of that,” said coach Brooke Steele, who added “I'm proud of the team.”
The Lady Chargers played Hatley Tuesday, have a home game with Nanih Waiya Thursday and will be at East Webster Friday.
