Choctaw County was held to three hits in season-ending 17-1 and 12-0 losses to Booneville in the opening round of the MHSAA 3A softball playoffs.
The first game was 1-1 through four innings. Booneville scored in the top of the first, but the Lady Chargers tied it in the bottom of the inning on a double by Jalia James.
Booneville went ahead with three runs in the fifth, then broke the game open with six in the sixth and seven in the seventh.
Makenzie Sanders had the team's other hit and the only hit in the 12-0 game. Again it was a big inning that hurt Choctaw County. Booneville scored three runs in the first, then closed out the game with nine in the fourth.
Hallie Burns, a sophomore, was the star for Booneville. She pitched both games, totaling 24 strikeouts, and had six hits, including a home run, and 10 RBIs.
Choctaw County reached the playoffs after finishing third in Region 4-3A.
Booneville and Kossuth were both 9-1 in 1-3A, but Kossuth won the tiebreaker for the region championship based on total runs in their two games. Booneville, fourth ranked in the state among 3A teams, played 3-3A champion Winona in the second round.
