Eupora High School Tennis hosted a Junior Eagles Tennis Camp on May 5-7 at the Eupora Courts. There were 61 tennis campers from grades kindergarten-sixth grade.
Eupora Tennis Varsity members were in charge of running courts that provided instruction and games that reinforced the skills being taught. Junior Varsity players were in charge of specific age groups and assisting at each court as needed. Everyone did a great job working together to make camp a success.
Coach Randee Jernigan was impressed with her tennis team filling leadership positions.
"My athletes are the hardest workers who are always willing to step up when asked to do big things,” she said. ”Having over 60 kids sign up for camp seemed really overwhelming at first, but my team made it look easy and fun!”
“Seeing the tennis team give back to younger players was really rewarding,” Jernigan said. “They did a fantastic job teaching on their courts. There were just as many smiles on the faces of the big kids as the campers!"
Camp sparked an interest in many of these kids that will hopefully make them future tennis players. With summer Junior USTA team leagues starting up in May, many of the campers will be playing on courts this summer.
"Tennis is a lifelong sport. It's exciting to see young kids begin to learn the game of tennis. Hopefully, I'll see them on my courts in the future," said Jernigan.
