On June 8, 2024, the Friends of Dean Park, Inc. and the Winston County NAACP Youth Council will sponsor Juneteenth Community Day 2024 at Dean Park, 10647 Hwy 15 South, Louisville, MS 39339. The 2024 national theme is “Their Wildest Dream”. The theme refers to past history of slavery and the highlights of the freed slaves and their descendents. Senator Rod Hickman, of District 32, will be the guest speaker.
The celebration will consist of 2 parts:
Part 1. 8:00 – 8:30 a.m. Juneteenth Meditation & Fitness Kickoff. It will consist of a moment of reflection and prayer, honoring Juneteenth. Then, there will be an energizing 20-minute workout, celebrating the historic day and embracing a healthier lifestyle. Free fresh fruits and drinks will be available.
Part 2. 12 p.m. – 5 p.m.
There will be a kids’ zone sponsored by Ike’s Entertainment with inflatable carnival toys, an eclectic mix of vendors, games, a cake walk, exciting giveaways, music featuring DJ Mel-O-Mix Master of Richard, CA and much more. Freedom songs will be lead by Dr. Richard Moncrief and children as we honor two centenarians – Mr. Jewel McDonald, 107 years old, Dee Dotson, 103 years old and one nonagenarian – Mrs. Christine Waldrip, 95 years old. Past president, recently deceased Linda Hampton, of the Winston County Voters League will be remembered. The Winston County Voters League sponsored the Juneteenth Celebration for many years at Dean Park until last year.
