The incredible run for the sixth ranked Ole Miss Rebels came to an end in the Arizona desert as they fell to No. 10 Miami, 31-27, in the Fiesta Bowl last Thursday night. Hurricane quarterback Carson Beck dropped back to pass and then found an opening on the left side and scrambled three yards for the winning touchdown with 18 seconds to play. The Rebels behind quarterback Trinidad Chambliss drove Ole Miss to the Miami 35 yard line in two plays. Then Chambliss tossed a pass into the end zone that was ruled incomplete. The Rebels ended the season with a record 13 wins against only two losses.
Chambliss passed for 277 yards and one touchdown in the championship game. He finished the season with 3,937 passing yards with 22 touchdowns and only three interceptions. He finished the season with a school record 24 touchdowns,
The NCAA denied Chambliss' request to play another year. The Rebel star just finished his fifth year of school. The NCAA said Ferris State and Ole Miss failed to provide enough medical evidence to back the request. Chambliss was redshirted his first year at Ferris State and then missed his second season for medical issues. Ole Miss Athletic Director Keith Carter said the school will appeal the ruling.
The Rebels did receive some good news over the weekend as former Auburn quarterback and Lucedale native Deuce Knight signed with Ole Miss.
