The recent ice storm didn’t just put a damper on athletic activities, but several students who made the All-State Honors Choir at Mississippi State University were unable to participate, but the honor is still theirs.
Choral Director Joel Barron said he had 15 students to try out for the All State Honors choir, and for six to be chosen among the 100s that auditioned is still an honor, despite the weather.
“Each year, hundreds of students across the state audition for the prestigious Mississippi All-State Honor Choirs. Six of the students that were selected through the audition process for these honor choir came from our very own Choctaw County High School. Each student is required to learn two difficult pieces of music as well as complete a sight reading exercise to be considered for these honor choirs,” Barron said. “Our students were selected to be part of two honor choirs; The Mississippi All-State High School SATB Honor Choir and the Mississippi All-State High School Treble Honor Choir. “
He said to audition, students had to sight read, pre record their own music and send it in.
“It’s a big ordeal and it’s a big achievement not just for the school but for the community as well,” he said.
