Choctaw County Career and Technology Center staff is working hard this semester to ensure that CTE students are provided with the necessary skills and knowledge needed to be successful in their future careers. CTE (Career and Technical Education) helps students develop technical skills and soft skills that will bridge the gap between school and the workplace and provide students with the opportunity to gain insight into the work world. CTE programs are designed to provide students with hands-on activities that embed in them real-world experiences which are relevant to the student’s program of study.
It has been exciting this school year to recognize two CTE students each month and put those students “In the Spotlight” to acknowledge their awards and/or achievements! Each month we have spotlighted students that are Seniors and concentrators in a CTE program. CTE concentrator refers to a student who is enrolled in the second year of a career and technical program.
The first senior in the spotlight for the month of March is Alex Telano. Alex is the son of Jason and Stacy Telano and is a second-year student in the Ag Power and Machinery program. Alex enjoys playing baseball and football and earned the MVP Baseball Award his sophomore year. His other awards/achievements include being accepted as a member of the Choctaw County High School Beta Club.
Alex’s favorite part of the Ag Power and Machinery Program is the opportunity that it has given him to practice the welding skills, that he learned as a first-year student, as well as to learn new welding styles and techniques. His future plans include attending Holmes Community College. CCCTC’s Ag Power and Machinery instructor is Mr. Adam Berry.
Keyshawn Scott is also in the spotlight for this month. Keyshawn is the son of Ms. Lakesha Scott. He is enrolled in the Sports Medicine program and his instructor is Mr. Bill Johnson. As a Senior at Choctaw County High School, Keyshawn participates in football, powerlifting, and track. His awards and achievements include being chosen as player of the week and Defensive MVP. Keyshawn’s future plans include joining a branch of the military and serving his country.
Congratulations, Alex and Keyshawn, and GOOD LUCK in your future careers!
