Thursday, May 4 was a busy night for the Choctaw County School District as the CCHS Lady Chargers Softball Team and the Chargers Baseball Team were busy with state playoff competition.
But not too busy for the remaining graduating seniors from French Camp Academy and Choctaw County High School, along with parents, school staffs, and supporters who gathered at the Choctaw County Community Center to celebrate the Classes of 2023 with scholarships, gifts, prizes, and food.
“We were pleased to bless this year’s graduates with more than S5,000 in cash and prizes and $6,170 in scholarships. We were delighted to be back in-person where we could experience the excitement of the students and the encouragement of members of the community and school staff. The community support was tremendous. Every student received a gift and gift card,” Dr. I.D. Thompson, President of the Choctaw County High School Alumni Association said.
Receiving scholarships were: James Johnson (James A. Keller), Leelah Ann Scott (CCHSAA Student Assistance), Leslie Fleming (Charles Thomas Community Service), Destinee Love (Suzanne Coleman), Luke Thomas Beard (Kay Gant), Makenzie Lane Sanders (Charles Thomas All-Purpose Athletic), Markevious Hardin (Earnestine Austin Shumaker Legacy and the Keyone Docher Memorial, and the Tarrance and Keisha Miller “Lifting As We Climb”), Anna Young Withers (Bonnie K. Thomas and Mary O’Neal Ervin), Jamario Payton (Vergie Mae Shaw Earvin), Eli Dale (Tarrance and Keisha Miller “Lifting As We Climb”), and Haley Hunt received the Philip and Charlotte Miller Teacher scholarship.
All scholarships will be awarded during the 2023 Fall Semester once students submit a completed proof of enrollment Form along with supporting documents.
