Wednesday, Choctaw County seniors from Choctaw County High School and French Camp Academy gathered at the Choctaw Community Center to celebrate their latest accomplishments with the Choctaw County High School Alumni Association. The CCHSAA held its annual scholarship banquet, this year’s theme was “We’re better together.”
Dr. I. D. Thompson told about a time where Choctaw County was segregated but came together during integration and has continued to come together, albeit the good, bad and the ugly.
“We’re all one people, one human race, one family and we’re better, better together,” Thompson told seniors. He talked about the work of the CCHSAA and how they’re currently working to take what was the former sight of the Choctaw County Vocational High School on Pine Street and develop a park, with the help of Red Hills.
The CCCHSAA have been a part of education in the county whether it’s their annual Back to School bash or their Scholarship banquet, their goal is and has always been to see Choctaw County’s biggest and brightest students go do and be great.
During the night there were refreshments, encouraging words, songs from the CCHS Sextet and Tammy Baber and was capped off with awarding the scholarship recipients and gave away gifts to the students.
Scholarship receipents were:
Aniyah Nash (James A. Keller), William Stokes Loden (CCHSAA Student Assistance), Journee Banks (Charles Thomas Community Service), Markeya Fleming (Suzanne Coleman), Aniyah Nash (Kay Gant), Simmons Brooks (Charles Thomas All-Purpose Athletic), Rebecca Boston (Brown/Hemphill Scholarship) Braxton Shumaker (Earnestine Austin Shumaker Legacy), Allie McCoy (Keyone Docher Memorial), Evelynn “Evee” Stevens (Bonnie K.
