The Louisville Board of Aldermen meeting marked the end of an era as City Clerk, Babs Fulton, attended her last meeting.
Fulton’s last official day on the job is June 30, after which she will enter into a well-deserved retirement. Fulton’s services will be greatly missed by local officials, as well as all Louisville residents according to fellow employees with the city.
The Board voted unanimously to appoint Steve Quinn, Charles Holmes and Annette Crabtree to four-year terms as election commissioners, from July 1, 2021 through 2025. The Board also unanimously appointed Joan Brandt to a five-year term on the Zoning Board, Julia Peters to a five-year term on the Utility Board, and the Mayor of Louisville to a three- year term on the Tourism Board.
The Board voted 4-0 to authorize a final payment to Simmons Construction for $10K for the MDOT TAP#1 Project, and to authorize payment to Burks Mordecai Builders for $87K for the Strand Theater Renovation Project. Alderwoman Judy McLeod was not present at the meeting.
In other action, the Board:
•Voted 4-0 to appoint Jay McLendon, Office Manager for Louisville Water & Electric, to be the Applicant’s Agent in all matters pertaining to the Louisville Utility FEMA grant project.
•Voted 4-0 to adopt a final resolution approving a five year tax exemption, of $95K, from city taxes, for Polo Custom Products, as approved by the Department of Revenue.
•Voted 4-0 to approved Police Officer Devodrick Sims attendance of a two-part training to be held in Jackson on June 22-24 & July 13-14, by Mississippi TIDE (Training for Impaired Driving Enforcement).
•Voted 4-0 to add Michael Burk as a volunteer fireman with Louisville Fire Dept.
•Voted 4-0 to acknowledge receipt of a $36 donation from EMEPA for Louisville Fire Dept.
•Voted 4-0 to accept the resignation of E911 Dispatcher, Natalie Marshall, and to hire Jessica Kent and Cindy Black as E911 dispatchers.
•Voted 4-0 to declare as surplus property and give authority to convey west half of undeveloped street off of E. John C. Stennis Drive to Fred Frazier and to Hunter Hudson, which is property adjoining their property.
•Voted 4-0 to set and give notice of a public hearing for Budget and Tax Levy for August 3, at 5 p.m. at the City Hall.
•Set July 1, 2021, at 9 a.m., as the special meeting for swearing in new officials.
•Acknowledged observance of July 4th holiday on Monday, July 5.
