The Junior Auxiliary of Louisville was proud to select Miss Brittany Michelle Woods to represent Winston County in this year’s Mississippi Miss Hospitality competition that will take place July 20-21 at the historic Saenger Theater in downtown Hattiesburg. A Noxapater native, Miss Woods is the daughter of Carrie Chandler and Michael Woods. She graduated with honors from Ocean Springs High School. While there, she served as president of the Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) and captain of the All Superior Blue Grey Pride Color Guard. Brittany now attends Mississippi State University where she is currently majoring in Biological Sciences with a concentration in Pre-Nursing. She is also involved in her sorority, Delta Delta Delta.
In addition, Junior Auxiliary had the opportunity to select a Little Miss Hospitality this year to accompany Miss Woods at the state competition. Little Misses will also appear on stage during competition and be invited to official events during the week. Bailey Crowson was selected as Winston County’s Little Miss Hospitality.
Miss Hospitality begin in 1949 under Governor Fielding Wright, and its purpose is to identify a young woman who is able to serve as a goodwill ambassador for one year, showing hospitality to everyone she meets while traveling across the State of Mississippi promoting Mississippi’s economic development and tourism industry. Miss Woods is honored to represent Winston County in this year’s competition. She claims, “This area has been touched by God himself because I have met the most inspiring, kind, and wise people that I now look up to and will continue to forever. I have never felt more love and compassion as everyone in this county has been like a family member to me.” Miss Woods accredits Winston County for teaching her how to utilize her morals as well as showing her how to be kind and loving to everyone around her. She is very excited to spread this positivity and love by representing Winston County at the State Competition this summer.
In order to participate in the Mississippi Miss Hospitality competition, women must be ages 18-24 and a resident of Mississippi representing their hometown rather than college town, and they must participate in the State Competition in Hattiesburg. In addition, a participant must be a high school graduate attending or planning to attend college who has never been married and has no children.
