The Winston-Louisville Career and Technology Center held their annual awards banquet on April 30, 2018 in order to recognize students who had excelled in one or more of their programs of Welding, Forestry, Ag Power and Machinery, Career Pathway Experience, Technology Student Association, Simulation and Animation Design, Teacher Academy, Culinary Arts, and Health Science. Mr. James Robert Webb currently serves as Career-Tech Director, and he was proud to welcome students, faculty, and guests to this exciting night dedicated to honoring and recognizing students for their outstanding achievements.
Mr. Shane McDaniel presented 1st Year Outstanding Welding Awards to Mack Ball and Ashley Clark, 2nd Year Outstanding Welding Awards to Chanley McDaniel and Elijah Caudill, and a 3rd Year Outstanding Welding Award to Trip Brown. In addition, Luke Herbert, Caleb Warren, Chanley McDaniel, Elijah Caudill, Ty Carter, Victor Mosley, Jaylon Houston, and Harley Doster were presented with awards for completing their second year in the Welding program. Taylor Machine Works Cash Prizes were presented to Luke Herbert and Caleb Warren in the amount of $150, Mack Ball and Chanley McDaniel in the amount of $250, and Trip Brown and Elijah Caudill in the amount of $500. Luke Herbert was this year’s recipient of the Taylor Machine Works Machinery Scholarship while Keyshawn Gladney was the recipient for the Taylor Machine Works Welding Scholarship. The following students were all recognized for their participation in the Welding program for the 2017-18 school year: Trip Brown, Luke Herbert, Mack Ball, Will Huntley, Elijah Caudill, Harley Doster, Seth Cumberland, Ashley Clark, Charles Lampley, D.J. Baxter, James Resh, Caleb Warren, Chanley McDaniel, Denton Orr, Keyshawn Gladney, Ty Carter, Victor Mosley, Jaylon Houston, Tykevious Gates, Michael Burt, and Kamale Steel.
Next up, Mr. Steve Herrington had the honor of recognizing several students for their success in the Forestry program. Dylan Castle was the recipient of the Clear Cut award while Jesse Boydstun received the MS Pine Knot (Ed Faurot Memorial) award. In addition, Nash Vanlandingham was honored as the 1st Year Outstanding Forestry Student and the 2nd Year Outstanding Forestry Student awards went to Holland Humphries and Nicholas Dempsey. The following students were recognized for completing the Forestry program: Jesse Boydstun, Nicholas Dempsey, Lance Sanders, Holland Humphries, Jackson Clark, Grayson Taylor, Dylan Castle, Cameron Clark, and Peyton McCool. Nash Vanlandingham and Terrance Luckett were recognized for being 1st Year Completers.
Mr. Jimmy Rushing was able to present the 1st Year Ag Power and Machinery Outstanding Student award to Billy Houston and the 2nd Year Ag Power and Machinery Outstanding Student award to Preston Grice. In addition, the following students were recognized for being first and second year completers of the Ag Power and Machinery program: Rylan Swindle, Dylan Castle, D’angelo Robertson, Joseph Copeland, John Allen Clark, Natalie Jones, Cole Misso, Billy Houston, Preston Grice, Seth Cumberland, Jordan Harris, Jed Hall, and Channing Smiley.
Students who excelled in Career Pathway Experience were presented awards by Mr. Corey Coward. Breana Davis was named the Most Outstanding Student in Career Pathway Experience, and Dinesha Harmon, Denesha Edmond, Breana Davis, Ashton Grice, and Ciajah Carter were all recognized for completing the Career Pathway Experience program.
Mrs. Kristi Jernigan also awarded students in the Technology Student Association. Amani Lyons and Alex Love received awards for getting 2nd place in Fashion Design at the District level. The Mississippi Aspirations in Computing award went to Sadiyah Matthews. In addition, Ryan Files was named the Outstanding Senior in the Technology Student Association and received honors cords.
Simulation and Animation Design had several students receive awards, and these were presented by Mr. Chawan Jernigan. The 1st Year Simulation and Animation Design Outstanding Student award went to Adam Thomas and the 2nd Year Outstanding Student award was presented to Blake Wyatt. The following students received certificates for completing two years in Simulation and Animation Design: Dontae Ball and Blake Wyatt. Malik Young and Adam Thomas were recognized for completing 1 year.
Mrs. Jenny Vowell presented the awards for Teacher Academy. Alexis Spears received the 2nd year Teacher Academy Most Outstanding Student award and Star Latham received the 1st year Most Outstanding Student award. The following students were recognized for completing either 1 or 2 years of Teacher Academy: Jakob Cunningham, Kayden Fussell, Ericka Miller, Shada Cistrunk, Gabby Keel, Katelyn Hemphill, Jazmin Taylor, Tierra Bates, Marion Ming, Alexis Spears, Star Latham, Bethany Higgason, Tylisha Miller, Adria Thames, Chelsey Kelly, Porscha Jones, Kygeria Dawkins, Fantasia Carter, Ken Holmes, Yolanda Cooper, and Laquinton Kelly.
Those achieving excellence in the Culinary Arts program were awarded by Mrs. Helen Black. Chef awards were presented to Sadiyah Matthews and D.J. Baxter. In addition, Anna White was awarded the 1st Year Culinary Arts Most Outstanding Student award, and Kirianna McCune was awarded the 2nd Year Most Outstanding Student award. Awards of Excellence were presented to Amani Lyons, Michael Edmond and Alexis Taylor
Other certificates were awarded to Ayamond Walker, and Kyisha Spivey.
Finally, there were numerous students who received awards in the Health Science program, which were presented by Mrs. Penny Wells. The 1st Year Health Science Most Outstanding Student award was given to Cortland Baker and the 2nd Year Most Outstanding Student award was given to Ariel Moore. In addition, Abby Wells, Cortland Baker, Makaela Stewart, and Harley Thomas were honored with the Barbara Jones Service Award for their completion of 100 hours of community service in health. The following students were presented with certificates for their completion of either 1 or 2 years of the Health Science program: Aly Clark, Ariel Moore, Lexi Thomas, Raleigh Paker, Breyonna Sangster, Makaela Stewart, Cortland Baker, Zamiracle Parker, Carly Taylor, Madison Alford, Marlee Eubanks, Eric Humphries, Abby Wells, Harley Thomas, Kierra Ball, and Patience McIntosh.
