In today’s uncertain and unsettled environment many individuals choose to carry a concealed weapon for their personal protection.
Mississippi has what are known as the ‘Castle Doctrine’ and ‘Constitutional Carry’ which allow a person to defend himself in any place where it is legal for him to be.
However, there are advantages in having an Enhanced Carry Permit. To this end the Winston County Sheriff’s Department will begin conducting Enhanced Carry Classes on the second Saturday of each month, with classes already scheduled for January 11, February 8 and March 14.
According to WSO Firearms Instructor, Deputy Scott Kohrs, the classes will begin at 8:00 a.m. with four hours of classroom instruction to be held at Winston County Courthouse, consisting of PowerPoint presentations, and practical exercises. After a lunch break the instruction will move to the firing range at the Winston-Choctaw County Regional Correctional Facility where the class members will eventually fire a 20-round qualification course.
There is an $85 fee for the course and participants are required to bring their own weapon, holster, eye & ear protection and 60 rounds of ammunition. To enroll, prospective students may go by the Winston County Sheriff’s Office or message Kohrs from the Facebook page Winston County SO Firearms Instruction.
