The fifth annual Wings Over Winston air show soared into the sky over Louisville this past Saturday, as hundreds of visitors came to view the breathtaking, death-defying air acrobatics of flyers from around the country and as far away as Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada.
Mike Forster, President of the Louisville-Winston County Airport Authority, stated that he and the Airport Authority Board, are looking for ways to raise awareness of aviation, and what better way to do so than with an air show.
The performers included: Jimmy Burke, Steve Covington, Stefan Trischuk, Frank Kimmel, Tommy Palmer, Mark Sorenson, Eric Hollingsworth and more. One of the highlights was a ‘dogfight’ performed by Trischuk portraying World War I flying ace, the Red Baron in a Sopwith Pup, and Covington in his Pitts S-2S Raptor.
There will be no Wings Over Winston in 2020 due to a major construction and renovation project which, according to Forster, will make the Louisville-Winston County Airport second to none, concerning small airports.
