A Maben teenager awaits a preliminary hearing in connection with a shooting in Eupora that left another young man hospitalized.
The shooting occurred after an argument around 7 p.m. Dec. 18 in the parking lot of Early Grove Apartments on Highway 9 North, according to the Eupora Police Department.
An affidavit filed by Officer Tyler Bierdeman alleges Dy’Quarvis Prishon Wofford shot Bronzeman Watson in the head with a 9mm handgun at Early Grove Apartments, where the victim lives.
Police Chief Gregg Hunter said Watson, 22, was shot in the face. He was immediately taken to North Mississippi Medical Center-Eupora and later transferred to a hospital in Jackson, where Hunter said he was in critical but stable condition as of Thursday.
The resulting investigation identified Wofford, of 176 Harpole St. in Maben, as the shooter. He was taken into custody around 4 a.m. Dec. 19 in Maben by the Oktibbeha County Sheriff’s Department, according to the EPD.
Although he is 17, Wofford was charged as an adult with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Municipal Judge Buchanan Meek Jr. set his bond at $100,000 and appointed him an attorney on Thursday. A preliminary hearing is set for 2 p.m. Jan. 8. Wofford remained in the Webster County Jail as of Thursday.
