At the June 17, 2019 meeting of the Winston County Board of Supervisors, the Board presented Bethany Grace Higgason and Kyla Elizabeth Linch with $500 checks as the Winston County recipients of the Mississippi Association of Supervisors County Employee Scholarship.
“We are glad to present this,” said District 2 Supervisor and President of the Board Luke Parkes. He added that the scholarship will be of help to the students in college.
This year the MAS County Employee Scholarship program awarded $43,000 in scholarships to dependents of current or retired county employees around the state.
Derrick Surrette, Executive Director of MAS said, "The MAS County Employee Scholarship program is one way that our Association can give back to the employees of our counties. We hope to have an even greater response to the program next year."

MAS applicants must be have an immediate family member (parent, stepparent, grandparent, step-grandparent, legal guardian or spouse) who is currently employed by or retired from Mississippi county government. Dependents of elected county officials are not eligible for this Scholarship Program. Be a legal resident of the State of Mississippi. Have a minimum GPA of 2.5 (on a 4.0 scale) and demonstrate community/civic involvement. Applicant must be enrolled (or plan to enroll) in an accredited public Mississippi college, junior or community college, or university for the Fall 2019 semester.
