A hearing in Webster County Justice Court for a former assistant teacher charged with statutory rape has been continued.
Kayla M. Tindall was to have appeared in court Friday afternoon but her attorney requested a postponement because of a conflict, according to the Justice Court office. Her case has been continued until 1 p.m. March 6.
A preliminary hearing has been requested, court officials said. Tindall, 32, is accused of the statutory rape of a 13-year-old child on about Oct. 1 and is free on $50,000 bond.
The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation charged her with the offense Feb. 4 after Eupora High School administrators were made aware of alleged misconduct by an employee.
Tindall, who was an assistant teacher at EHS, was no longer employed by Webster County Schools as of the afternoon of Jan. 30, according to Superintendent Brian Jones. He did not name Tindall in a statement released Jan. 31 but the Webster County Sheriff’s Department later confirmed that she was the employee in question.
