Spring Beautification Day and Good Friday Prayer Service will be held at Dean Park, HWY 15 South, on Friday, April 19, 2019, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Walmart #183, manager Matthew Wisecup, will supply food, drinks and some volunteers. Fire Department, Coca Cola truck will be there along with: 4-H Club, the Modern Woodmen of America Youth Service Club, Winston County Master Gardeners Association and Black Girls Read are among the other groups. Volunteers can help plant, mulch, weed, and prune, fertilize and spruce up the park. Community Service hours are available for students’ scholarships and college applications and for master gardeners recertification. Membership to Friends of Dean Park, Inc. is open to all.
The Modern Woodmen of America Youth Service Club will open the day by tying yellow ribbons on the ten bald cypress trees that they planted near the park’s lake in 2014 in memory of the ten victim of the devastating EF4 Tornado that tore through Winston County on April 28, 2014. The 5th anniversary is next week. The trees will forever be a reminder to their families, friends and the entire community that they will never be forgotten. The yellow ribbons are being donated by Jerry’s Flower Shop, 120 N. Columbus Avenue, Louisville, MS.
The Good Friday Prayer Service is in memory of former Dean Park Commissioner Claudell Weaver who started the Good Friday Prayer Service in 2012. This is the 5th anniversary of her passing. This year’s theme will be ‘Let us Pray for Unity in America’. Praying will be from 12 noon – 1:00 p.m.
