On Tuesday, February 26, at around 10:35 a.m., officers from Winston Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a shooting at a residence at the intersection of Young Crossing Rd. and Odie Shields Rd.
The victim, 18-year-old Katevis Malik Miller, was transported by personal vehicle to the Winston Medical Clinic in Noxapater. Sheriff Jason Pugh stated that clinic nurses worked with him until an ambulance arrived and Miller was transported to Winston Medical Center Emergency Room, where he later passed away.
Pugh said that Miller had been shot once with a .40-cal. handgun, with the round passing through his arm and into his body.
Witnesses at the scene identified the shooter as 18-year-old Jarad Hannah who had left the scene by the time law enforcement officers arrived. At around 2:45 p.m., Tuesday afternoon, Hannah was found hiding in the top of a closet in a residence on Odie Shields Rd. and placed under arrest.
Hannah appeared before Justice Court Judge Mike Fuller on Wednesday morning, February 27, and is being held without bond in the Winston County Regional Correctional Facility.
Pugh stated that Hannah has made no statement and no motive for the shooting has been established at this time.
